The Paw-fect Getaway

Dog outside Lazyday log cabin

We are dog lovers at Lazyday and believe that no family holiday is complete without your four-legged friends. That’s why we welcome dogs with open arms to all three of our lodges. Surrounded by the rolling Scottish Border’s countryside and with lots of garden space for your pooch to play in, there is no better place to spend your holidays.

There is no shortage of dog-friendly things to do in the local area, but here are some of our favourite dog-friendly walks and eateries nearby…

Dog-Friendly Walks

We are so lucky to be located in the Scottish Borders with fantastic hill trails, woodland walks and dog-friendly beaches on our doorstep. There is a route for every pup, so grab your lead, pack your picnic, and follow their four paws on your next adventure.

Cocklawburn Beach

The beach is the perfect place for a brisk walk and a game of catch. Your pup can enjoy bounding through the waves as they stretch their legs and burn some energy. Lazyday is only a short drive from many beautiful beaches on Scotland’s and England’s east coast. One of our favourites is Cocklawburn Beach, situated just south of the town of Berwick-upon-Tweed. The expanding golden sands are backed by grassy sand dunes with incredible views south towards Holy Island.

View from the Twinlaw Cairns

Walk on the wild side and discover the unspoilt views from the moorlands of the Lammermuir Hills, situated to the north of Lazyday. One of our favourite walks in the Lammermuirs is from the Watch Water Reservoir to the Twin-Law Cairns, along a stretch of the Southern Upland Way. Your walk will take you along farm tracks and over rugged moorland before reaching the two large stone cairns. The views south over the Borders towards the Cheviot Hills are spectacular.

Boardwalk by the River Tweed at Paxton House

Closer to home, the paths along the banks of the River Tweed are perfect for exploring. Let your dog’s nose lead you along our favourite stretch of the river, only a couple of miles from Lazyday, from the Union Bridge to Paxton House. The Union Bridge is the world’s oldest vehicular suspension bridge that connects Scotland to England over the River Tweed. The bridge, which is currently under restoration and is nearing completion, is an incredible sight and worth a trip to see.

Dog-Friendly Cafés

No adventure is complete without a stop to refuel. There are many eateries in the local area that welcome dogs. Here is a selection of our local favourites…

If you are seeking out a delicious lunch and a decedent treat, look no further than Marshall’s Café. Located on the outskirts of Berwick-Upon-Tweed, it is the perfect pitstop following a trip to the beach or after exploring the historic town. Only a 14-minute drive from Lazyday and with a counter full of delightful bakes and a range of brunch and lunch options, it is a must-visit during your stay.

Enjoy an evening out after a day of exploring at The Cross Inn Pub & Restaurant only 3 miles from Lazyday. The Cross Inn serves delicious, traditional pub meals and daily specials made with seasonal, locally sourced ingredients. The best part of all, your four-legged friend doesn’t have to miss out!

On your adventures in the Lammermuir Hills discover the quaint Woodlands Café in the small hamlet of Abbey St Bathans. After a brisk walk in the crisp Scottish air, cosy up by the wood-burning stove while enjoying a light lunch, coffee, or a delicious sweet treat.

Dog at Lazyday

There are so many dog-friendly adventures and things to do in the local area and this is just a small selection of our favourites. However, we believe there is nothing better than a cosy night in the lodge, snuggled on the sofa with our pooch and our favourite film.
