Let the Family Fun Begin!
Thinking of things to keep your kids entertained while on holiday can be hard. The area surrounding Lazyday Cottages has plenty of activities for children of all ages, whether you want a family adventure or a relaxing day out, the Scottish Borders and North-Northumberland has plenty to offer. Here are some of our favourite things to do for all ages:
Berwick Sports & Leisure Centre
If the weather has taken a turn for the worse, as it can do in the UK, the brand-new state of the art Berwick Sports & Leisure Centre is perfect for an indoor family day out. The centre boasts a three-storey soft play perfect for keeping children entertained for hours and a café nearby so that you can enjoy a hot coffee & cake while watching the kids play. It also has three swimming pool areas including a splash area with slides for all ages, especially those big kids amongst us.
Only a few miles down the road from Lazyday is Paxton House, an idyllic Georgina House sitting high above the River Tweed surrounded by woodlands. With woodland and wildlife trails, as well as a fantastic playpark that has a zip wire and steep slide, it is the perfect place for little adventurers. Delve deep into the history of Paxton House with a tour around the beautiful mansion and discover the wealth of stories that it holds.
Ford & Etal Estates – Heatherslaw Light Railway
Tucked away in the North-Northumberland landscape is Ford & Etal Estate, with lots to offer in the way of family days out and places to eat. Take a trip on England’s most northern steam railway, Heatherslaw Light Railway, between Heatherslaw and Etal Castle. A must-visit for families with young children.
As far as rainy-day activities come, this one is up there. It’s not only one for the artists among us, but one for the whole family to get involved in. Pot-a-Doodle Do offers pottery painting for all ages, giving you the chance to hand-paint the perfect memento to take home from your Lazyday trip. Once you have worked up an appetite why not head over to the Pot-a-Doodle Do Café Bistro or if the weather allows take a trip down to Cocklawburn Beach.
Fox Lake, Dunbar
One for the thrill-seekers, Fox Lake, located just outside Dunbar in East Lothian, has something for all ages. At Fox Lake you can show off your skills while wakeboarding, hang on tight on a Ringo ride or take on the challenge of FoxFall, a low ropes course challenge with no safety harness just the water looming below. If you’d prefer to stay dry, they also offer Segway tours, which will have you zooming through the East Lothian countryside.
Riptide Rib Rides – St Abbs
Experience the beautiful Berwickshire Coastline like never before from the sea on a rib boat ride. The rib boat ride starts in the world-famous village of St Abbs, known for its diving and providing a backdrop for blockbuster films. Hold on tight as you travel across the waves, with the cliffs towering above. Take in the incredible views and spot some of the local wildlife. You may even be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of dolphins on your voyage, what a treat!
These are only a few of our favourite things to do as a family locally, there are endless activities and places to visit which are only a stone’s throw from Lazyday Cottages. These activities are perfect for creating unforgettable memories on a stay that we hope you will look back on for years to come.
